~Yoga

The word, yoga, is derived from the Ancient Eastern language of Sanskrit.

Yoga means:

Unity
Union
Source of Life
Origin of Life

Throughout the years, the discipline of Yoga has evolved to include many philosophies, movements, branches, and participants.

~Organic & Seasonal Cooking

Variety is the Spice of Life.

Variety is also, the source of nutritional wellness.

Eating organic, local, seasonal, high quality diets is essential to optimum wellness.

~Garden Herbs

For thousands of years, humans and other animals have healed ourselves through food and herbs found in our natural habitats.

As we, humans, have grown, technologically we have altered our natural habitats in ways that at times, are counterproductive to our own wellness.

Additionally, we have traded natural healing styles & compounds for more artificial and often, detrimental ways.

One of the most diverse and primal, means of healing body, mind, spirit, and soul continues to be herbal healing.

Herbs may be used in cooking, teas, aromatherapies, bath salts & body lotions, poultices, air cleansers, cleaning products, clothing, and more.

Herbs beautify our outdoor and indoor spaces, attract valuable & delightful creatures to our gardens, cleanse our systems, and uplift our beings.

The cultivation of herbs is simple, excellent nature education, economically, lucrative and beneficial to our personal, communal, and environmental wellness.

Garden herbs are the easiest and most bountiful to cultivate.

~Spirituality

Spirituality is a basic component of well-living.

Spirituality is individual to each person and her / his spirit.

Spirituality includes a belief in honoring the Human spirit as well as the spirit of creatures and objects in our world. Spirituality also, includes respecting and embracing the spirit of the Divine.

Every being has a spirit and all spirits are united into One greater Spirit.

One primary means of practicing spirituality that is communal to all faiths, religions, and cultures is through meditation.

Meditation is our natural "neutral" state.

It is also, a practiced skill.

When meditation is the foundation of our actions, we find greater meaning, connection, and enjoyment in our life's journey.

We also, embrace conflict, negotiation, and change with greater trust.

Meditation improves our quality of life physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Spirituality may also, be practiced through:

Self-introspection
Kindness toward others
Commitment and action toward global consciousness
Communing with nature
Singing, dancing, creating art
Mindful cooking & eating
Embracing family & neighbors
Honoring traditions of enlightenment & sacredness
Acts of birth & re-birth
Herbal cultivational & healing
Divine ritual
Living with intention

...and many other thoughts, feelings, and actions that lead us toward greater oneness, balance, and harmony with ourselves and the world around us.

~Nature

Nature is fundamental to human wellness and the wellbeing of all creatures.

We are in balance when the natural world around us in balance.

The water, food, air, and energetic vibrance we receive from the Earth fuel our beings.

Re-greening our environment begins with re-greening ourselves.

~Women's Health

Women comprise 51% of the human population of our Earth.

Women are the primary care givers of children, elders, men, and each other.

Women are the vessel for human rebirth.

The better we take care of, the greater we respect and the more we celebrate our women, the healthier our cultures will become.

To educate a woman...is to educate a nation.
~ African Proverb

♥ Peace, Love & Healing in the Big Easy

For nearly, twenty years I have lived and worked in New Orleans, LA.

New Orleans inherently, embodies the essence of balance in urban, natural living.

With life nestled in giant, old Live Oak trees, diverse flora and fauna ranging from hibiscus to cactus & raccoons to gekkos, houses built of ancient cypress and bricks made from local mud & sand, food caught in local bayous & streams, New Orleans living centers around the out-of-doors, wise, utilization of resources, and conscious, collective habitat.

This remains as true for the materials the city is built with, as the rituals its inhabitants thrive upon.

Fishing, woodworking, pottery, ceramics, glassblowing, metal-work, gardening, coffee-roasting remain active, prime industries in New Orleans for thousands of years.

Lake Pontchartrain, and the Mississippi River which surround New Orleans provide fluid, thoroughfare for exchange of goods, services, ideas, cultures, and energies throughout North & South America, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean Islands.

Social structures, educational challenges, economic strata, and forces of nature have challenged the citizens and landscape of New Orleans throughout the ages.

However, I believe New Orleans possesses among the greatest abilities to rebirth itsself, as well as the strongest spirits to survive on the Planet Earth.

For this reason, and the simple, wisdom and bliss I find as part of every day life in the Big Easy, I have committed my time, resources, and love to the wellness of New Orleans for nearly two decades.

~Globalism

Communication is the key to healthy relationships.

La comunicacion es la clave para disfrutar las relaciones entre seres humanos.

Communicating through diverse styles & languages keeps our brains strong & our minds open.

Comunicarse a traves de varias lenguas y estilos diversos hace fuerte el cerebro y abierta la mente.

As globalism becomes the norm, it is important for each one of us to continue expanding our reach to others.

En cuanto mas globalistico sea el mundo, lo mas importante crecernos y comunicarnos mutuamente.

~Volunteerism

Volunteerism is a fundamental practice in my life.

We all need each other, to share our lives together, and build a world of healthy interdependence.

Through mutual sharing we learn to give and receive in strengthening ways.

Both giving and receiving allow us to embrace life with fullness & bliss.
